CEO of Inc. 500 Company and Local Ambulance Chief Named to Philadelphia Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 List

BLUE BELL, PA - Michael Kalinsky’s Mondays go from conference calls to emergency calls. When Kalinsky is not leading his six-year-old management consulting company, Empyrean Management Group, he can be found serving as the Deputy Chief of Harleysville Area EMS in Lower Salford, PA. This unique combination helped land Kalinsky on the 40 Under 40 list of Delaware Valley Young Professionals compiled by the Philadelphia Business Journal and its co-sponsors, Bank of America, RSM McGladrey, and the Fox School of Business at Temple University. This prestigious 16-year-old list is made up of high achievers that have made an impact on the Delaware Valley through their words and actions in the business world as well as in their communities.

The editors of the Philadelphia Business Journal received a record 250 plus nominations for the 2006 40 Under 40 Award and spent many hours evaluating the nominees. The 40 Under 40 Award is not the first appearance in the Business Journal by Kalinsky or Empyrean Management Group. In August of 2005, EMG and Kalinsky were profiled in a Growth Strategies article entitled, “Remember What You Said.” In October of 2005, the company was named for the first time to the Philly 100, a list of the fastest growing, privately held companies in the Philadelphia region. Capping off the company’s run of awards, Inc. Magazine named Empyrean Management Group #385 on their 2005 Inc. 500 list of fastest growing, privately held companies in the U.S.

“Being named to the Philly 40 Under 40 is truly a great honor for my company and for me. One of the Core Values of Empyrean Management Group is Community Involvement, and I see this recognition from the Philadelphia Business Journal and its sponsors as validation of our values. In 2005, EMG helped raise or donated more than $25,000 in support of events like the 1st Annual John Kulick Memorial Golf Outing and the CURE Parkinson’s Disease 5K Race. I can handle the aggravation my accountant gives me every time he checks to see how much time or money we’ve donated to a deserving charity when I know that there others out there that value what we do. While I may be the one receiving this award, I am fully aware that none of the success the company or I have experienced would be possible without the hard word and dedication of the members of the EMG team,” said Mike Kalinsky.

Kalinsky currently serves as the President and CEO of Empyrean Management Group, Inc. and is one of the co-founders of the company. He moved into his current role in the summer of 2001. Since then, the company has grown from two employees to over one hundred employees and consultants serving clients throughout the U.S. The company is based in Blue Bell, PA and provides companies with outsourced HR, Recruiting, and Training services, as well temporary staffing solutions through its Strategic Search Group division. In his spare time, Kalinsky volunteers as the Deputy Chief of Harleysville Area EMS, where he is also one of the founding members. HAEMS is a 911 provider based in Lower Salford, PA that serves over 15,000 residents living in Harleysville and parts of the surrounding area.

College Football Coach Joins Empyrean Management Group Team

BLUE BELL, PA - Empyrean Management Group. Inc., a leading provider of outsourced HR, Recruiting, and Training Services based in Blue Bell, PA, announced the hiring of Kevin Faulkner today. Faulkner joins EMG as a Training Consultant with an emphasis on Diversity. In his new role with EMG, Faulkner will be responsible for marketing and managing Empyrean's Getting Hired 101 program. Getting Hired 101 is a training program geared towards college students preparing to enter the workforce. The course has been presented at schools such as Hampton University and Delaware State University, and most recently at Ursinus College.

GH 101 takes students through a typical corporate hiring process, from resume preparation to behavioral interview techniques used within most Fortune 500 companies. The course is intended to provide the students with the knowledge and skills required to secure their first jobs out of school.

Faulkner comes to Empyrean from Cheyney University where he was the Head Coach of Cheyney's football team. Prior to his stint at Cheyney, Faulkner had spent much of the last 25 years coaching and mentoring at the collegiate level at schools such as the University of Missouri. "Everyone here at Empyrean Management Group is very excited about Coach Faulkner joining our organization. Newswire Update 12-Apr-2005:

Empyrean Management Group CEO Speaks at Fordham University

BLUE BELL, PA - On Friday, April 8th, Empyrean Management Group’s CEO and President, Mike Kalinsky, spoke on the subject of Strategic Planning and Entrepreneurship to MBA students at Fordham University’s School of Business in Manhattan. “Being asked to speak to professionals on the road to achieving their MBAs is a high honor to my company and me. I never imagined five years ago when we were first getting the company up and running that all of our hard work would end up as discussion material for a college class,” said EMG President, Mike Kalinsky, after the event.

Mr. Kalinsky’s presentation reviewed Empyrean Management Group’s growth strategies over the last five years. The speech focused on strategic planning and open communication with employees and included learning points such as, “One of the cornerstones of Empyrean Management Group is the belief that Open Communication is something that must be adhered to in every facet of an organization. Like many other small companies, EMG faced adversity early on in our history. Many of the people that helped found EMG are still here because they have always had the facts in front of them to be able to make good decisions for their families. Companies that do not trust their staff with information or worse yet, think of their team members as Human Capital, will not stay competitive in today’s workplace.”

Kalinsky also spoke of the need for business leaders to be more accountable to their employees. “Executives that use the excuse of not knowing what was going on in their business, such as the people we have seen on the evening news over the last few months, have lost touch with what it means to be a leader. A sense of honor or personal integrity dictates that you, as the leader of an organization, take responsibility for the actions of your company. Too many business leaders take credit for how well their company did when revenue reports come due, but immediately hide behind attorneys and denials of knowledge when things go wrong.”

The presentation concluded with a lively Q/A between the students and Kalinsky that included the question as to how Kalinsky and EMG defined success. “Obviously my accountant would answer that in terms of growth and profit. I prefer to answer it in this way. Our company name is defined as an ‘Ideal Place or State.’ During the course of the year, I am constantly looking for places that our company can help live up to that ideal. In years past, we have sponsored former employees walking in charity races to cure Breast Cancer, thrown parties for the children of soldiers engaged in the War in Iraq, and bought new pagers for an Ambulance squad. We define success in knowing that Empyrean is profitable enough to share our good fortune with others to try and live up to our name.”

Empyrean Management Group is a leading provider of outsourced HR, Recruiting, and Training services to Fortune 500 companies U.S. With offices in San Diego, Dallas, Richmond, VA, and its headquarters in the suburbs of Philadelphia, EMG is able to provide our clients with national service and unsurpassed quality. Newswire Update 9-Feb-2005:

From Field Goals to Professional Goals, Former Football Star to Share Strategies for Getting Hired on Tuesday, Feb. 22 at Cheyney University

CHEYNEY, PA - Four years ago, Harold Hill was like many hopeful college graduates. He was set to earn a bachelor's degree from the University of Richmond, but didn't know exactly what he wanted to do after graduation.

Hill, a star college football cornerback, decided to become a business professional upon graduation. Hill said he knew he wanted to work with people. However, he didn't know exactly how to best market his skills. He majored in speech communications, and minored in leadership, but he didn't have much experience working in the business world.

"When I came out of school, I was very unprepared," he said.

But since he graduated in December 2000, Hill's quick advancement in the business world has been an inspiration to college graduates who are struggling today to find their way in the world.

Hill, now a diversity recruiting manager for the Empyrean Management Group in Blue Bell, will be one of the featured presenters at a free "Getting Hired 101" seminar at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005. The program is sponsored by the university's Department of Athletics at Cheyney University of Pennsylvania, located at 1837 University Circle, Cheyney.

The two-hour "Getting Hired 101" program, which will be held in Cheyney's Marian Anderson Auditorium, teaches students tips on what it takes to get hired in today's competitive workplace. “Participants will learn everything from preparing résumés and proper dress for job interviews to analyzing and improving their verbal and physical communication skills,” said Michael Kalinsky, President of Empyrean Management Group. After each seminar, Empyrean Management Group will offer free résumé counseling to interested students.

“These seminars offer students the same chance at kick starting their career as Hill was given four years ago,” Kalinsky said.

At the Feb. 22 "Getting Hired 101" seminar, Kalinsky and his consultants will offer Cheyney students career-directing tips such as:

  • Decide where you want to live and work, based on your desires and the type of job market that exists in your chosen location.
  • Explore job options on Web-based search engines like Google, Yahoo and Networking.
  • Create a list of companies or industries where you want to work and research them.
  • Attend college recruiting events and job fairs, and scan help wanted advertisements.
  • Make sure spelling and grammar are correct in all correspondence, such as cover letters and résumés.
  • Use an e-mail address that conveys a professional image to potential employers.
  • Remove computer viruses before sending prospective employers any correspondence.
  • Prepare in advance how you might respond to questions asked during a job interview.
  • Be aware that your physical, oral and written communication skills will be assessed by prospective employers.
  • Invest in a portfolio, at least one good pair of shoes and conservative attire to wear during a job interview
Empyrean Management Group, which has helped prepare job seekers for employment opportunities at Fortune 500 companies, hired Hill for an entry-level research position in March 2000. Since then, Hill has been promoted to a recruiting consulting position, travels on behalf of the company, and helps contact and screen potential job candidates. “He is responsible for more than 300 people getting jobs in a variety of fields,” Kalinsky said.

"A lot of employers won't take the time or take the chance on someone fresh out of school with little to no business world experience," Kalinsky said. "Now when we look back, it's hard to believe he is the same person."
Hill said he is grateful Empyrean saw his potential and gave him a chance. Through the "Getting Hired 101" seminars, Hill said he hopes to help today's students hone the skills they need to succeed in today's job market.

EMG, in partnership with the Ursinus College Career Services Department and the Ursinus African American Student Union (SUN), will be on Ursinus' Collegeville, PA campus on February 16, 2004. "We are very excited to be working with Ursinus College and SUN to present our Getting Hired 101 program. We have incorporated a lot of the feedback from the students we encountered last year and expect a great deal of student interaction. The e-mails I have received from last year's attendeess have been very encouraging," said Harold Hill, EMG's Diversity Recruiting Manager and one of the GH 101 presenters.

"Getting Hired 101 is a way for our company to give something back to the community as part of our core values," said Michael G. Kalinsky, President and CEO of Empyrean Management Group. Kalinsky continued, "Getting Hired was originally developed as a result of our experience working with college students just entering the workforce. Statistics have consistently shown that everything from someone's first name to the college they attended can affect someone's ability to land that first interview. This program is meant to help even the playing field. We work in partnership with Career Services to lay the groundwork, but in the end it is still up to the student to apply the lessons we leave them with." EMG's consultants have previously presented Getting Hired 101 at Hampton University, Cheney University of PA, Delaware State, and The University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Upcoming events include the annual Getting Hired 101 seminar at Cheyney University (specific dates and time to be announced).

Getting Hired 101 is a two hour program focused on giving students the basics on what it takes to get hired in today's competitive workplace. The program covers all aspects of a typical corporate hiring process. Empyrean's diverse client base ensures that the students are given a comprehensive look at what is going on in Corporate America today.
